Mercy’s Door is a new church in Mascoutah, Illinois. Mercy’s Door exists to make disciples who make disciples (Matthew 28:19) by proclaiming our desperate need for a savior (Ephesians 2:2-3) and the saving grace of Christ in the midst of our rebellion (Ephesians 2:4); We declare this truth as we learn and experience together how the gospel transforms all areas of our lives (Galatians 2:20).

At Mercy's Door we are a community of believers who affirm two scandalous and life-giving truths: That receiving the extravagant saving grace of Christ requires absolutely nothing of us; and that as we come to fully understand the nature of that extravagant grace we will be compelled to give everything to the Lord.

Grace by its very nature is unwarranted and underserved. The grace offered to us by the life, death, and resurrection of Christ is all the more completely unable to be earned or purchased. This grace, by which we have been saved through faith so that none may boast (Ephesians 2:9), is given to us by a loving Father drawing His children once again near to Him. God gave His own Son for us in order that we may not only be forgiven and redeemed in this present age but also that we may be granted the eternal inheritance of joy due only to Jesus (Romans 8:17). Being recipients of this lavish love and mercy is something we come by passively. We receive grace, not as ones who have longed, fought, or worked for our saving gift, but instead as broken, depressed, lost, and sinful men and women unaware of our genuine desperate need and unable to find our way to grace. The grace given to us requires nothing from us and is not about us, but rather about the righteous one who took our place: our Savior Jesus.

The truth of the free gift of grace leads us to worship (Psalm 13:5). As we are reminded day after day of the price that was paid, of the gift that was given, we are moved to worship in spirit and in truth the God who saved us. This means that at Mercy's Door we do not drive primarily toward doing, working, and obeying, but instead, we seek to remind each other again and again of the extravagant love of Jesus and to understand the complete sufficiency of the work of Christ on our behalf. We believe that this love, grace, and mercy that has been poured out for us will compel us to give everything to the Lord to fully worship Him, serve others, and joyfully proclaim the truth of the gift we have been given to the community around us.

We are Acts 29 and SBC-affiliated and teach from a reformed Baptist perspective.
